Okay, so I’m not going to get 800 words in tonight. After work I had my weekly study group with a friend and then I just ran through my sequences for my yoga class tomorrow night and I need to get a good night’s sleep before an early morning meeting. Whew! The weeks just roll on by… it’s crazy how fast time goes.

So rather than bore you with blathering, here are some pictures of our nephew’s birthday cake from this year. You may remember that last year I went with a Beatles theme. This year was all about Thomas the Tank Engine.

First, we start with a naked 1/2 sheet cake, carefully cut into the number 2. This is always Jim’s favorite part. “When will there be scraps to eat?”

Naked cakes are indecent. Put some frosting on! I utilized some of the scraps (sorry Jim!) to build Mt. Rainier.

Woot, woot! Percy exits the tunnel, on his way to stop #2. My cream cheeze frosting started to get a little droopy after a day and half of hanging out, but that didn’t make it any less tasty…

“Wait a minute… this is all the cake I get?”

“I think you people are holding out on me…”

I know I am behind on posting the winners of the cookbooks, but I will get those up ASAP. I had this HUGE project/event happen at work today that I was solely responsible for preparing/executing, so now that it is over, I can relax a little more and realign.

But in honor of my 7th wedding anniversary (today!) to my beloved James…

I loves you, my BFFFE! (best friend for freaking ever!)

Wow, seven years ages you. We look so young! I can only imagine what it will be like to look at these pictures in 30 years. Everyone thought we were crazy. We’d only known each other for 6 months, no joke. I don’ blame people for thinking we were nuts, but sometimes you have to trust your gut. And when you know, you know and now we have some street cred to our names…

Yummy vegan anniversary dinner- here I come!

This weekend was our nephew’s first birthday. S. is the first baby on either side of the family, his father’s side or his mother’s side, so needless to say, it’s a big deal. I’m proud to say that our nephew is truly, the cutest baby in the world and I have the proof to back this claim.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B, playing badminton with Uncle Jim:

Clearly cuteness runs in the family! And he’s insanely smart, no bias. 🙂 He oinks when he sees a pig, pants when he sees a dog and makes a mock-crying noise when he sees pictures of other babies. It’s pretty freaking cute.

S.’s bedroom is decorated in a Yellow Submarine theme, from the imported hand-woven submarine rug to a Yellow Submarine clock and painted walls and furniture to match. Being The Beatles lover that I am, I knew I had to do something big for his first birthday.

The real Yellow Submarine:

S.’s birthday submarine:

A chocolate cake with buttercream frosting, and some marzipan detailing. The rounds above the submarine represent The Sea of Holes, topped with marzipan faces of The Beatles plus a little baby face to represent S. It was a pretty big cake, being two 13×9 sheet cakes together, but only one layer, we were able to put a good dent in it over the weekend. S. won’t remember this cake, but there are plenty more cakes to come.

We all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine…
